Training for ME`s for Health hazard issues- fire safety

In the field of occupational health and safety, fire safety is an important subject. To ensure the highest level of safety for all employees in hotels, restaurants, and workplaces, small entrepreneurs are provided with health and safety training on fire risk and fire safety. At the beginning of the training, through primary discussions and PowerPoint presentations, entrepreneurs learnt about the following key points: fire safety policies and fire extinguishing methods, actions to take in case of a fire, the dangers and damages caused by fire, and ways to stay safe from fire. Additionally, they are taught how to control equipment near them in the event of a sudden fire at the workplace and how to minimize losses. They are also instructed on the proper use of fire extinguishers/fire safety equipment.

In the second phase, the use of fire safety equipment was a significant focus in controlling fires. Here, the Fire Service Brigade demonstrated various fire suppression techniques, and small entrepreneurs actively participated in practical exercises. Currently, a total of 80 small entrepreneurs actively participates in this fire safety training through four batches. The sessions are conducted by skilled trainers from the Fire Service and Civil Defense Training Complex.

The initiative is being implemented by Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and supported by the World Bank under the Sustainable Enterprise Project (SEP) for promoting safe street food management practices. The project aims to benefit 350 individuals engaged in the hotel, restaurant, and street food vending sectors. The project operates within the jurisdiction of Dhaka City Corporation, including the Mohammadpur and Mirpur areas, as well as the Rangpur City Corporation, covering the Rangpur Sadar and C&B Bazaar areas. All project staff actively cooperate in facilitating the training program.
