In our country, there is a lack of sufficient knowledge about the importance of safe food and the health risks associated with consuming contaminated food. To build an advanced nation, we need a healthy, strong, and intelligent population, and ensuring safe food is essential for achieving this goal. With the slogan "Safe Food for Everyone" in mind, we organized training programs on food safety and health regulations for aspiring entrepreneurs.
The objective of these training programs is to provide knowledge on maintaining food safety and nutritional quality, as well as how to deliver mentally acceptable food to consumers. Through these programs, participants gain an understanding of various aspects such as food safety, food hygiene regulations, health risks associated with food, physical and chemical hazards, and more. Additionally, the training covers topics like proper food storage, food preparation techniques, management of food quality, personal hygiene practices, and creating a safe environment to ensure a thriving food business.
The current training program on food safety and health regulations has actively involved 300 entrepreneurs across 14 batches. These training programs have been conducted under the supervision of the Food Safety Officer of Bangladesh Safe Food Authority. Alongside the training, participants are provided with three types of waste bins for waste segregation, chopping boards and knives for fish and meat cutting, first aid boxes, aprons, and a display board showing the 12 fundamental principles of safe food.
Through these training programs, entrepreneurs are encouraged to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in hotels and restaurants, produce nutritious food, and foster a strong commitment to awareness among all stakeholders. The Sustainable Enterprise Project of Stainable Enterprise Project (SEP) supported by Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and the World Bank financially is implementing a sub-project called Safe Street Food Management Practices. This project is currently engaging with 350 individuals involved in hotels, restaurants, and street food vending, with a focus on promoting practical implementation. The project operates within the jurisdiction of Dhaka City Corporation, covering Mohammadpur, Mirpur, and Rangpur City Corporation, including Rangpur Sadar and SIO Bazar areas.
Through these initiatives, we aim to create a culture of food safety and health regulations among entrepreneurs, ensuring clean and hygienic practices, producing quality food, and raising awareness about the harmful effects of used cooking oil, food coloring, spoiled food, and the use of plastic and printed paper for wrapping food items.
